Jeconiah Dreisbach
Jeconiah Dreisbach is a tenure-track Lecturer in Philippine Studies at the Department of Filipino of De La Salle University in Manila. Concurrently, he is finishing his PhD specializing in critical sociolinguistics at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya in Barcelona, where he is also part of the interdisciplinary research group Language, Culture and Identity in the Global Age (IdentiCat). As a sociolinguist and ethnographer, Jecon has five years of fieldwork experience investigating the sociolinguistics of migration and family language policies of Filipinos in the southern Philippines and the United Arab Emirates. As an interdisciplinary social scientist, he delved into the intersections of language, culture, and health among Filipinos. With roots in theoretical media studies, he has published works on Philippine popular culture as well. He co-edited the book Environment, Media, and Popular Culture in Southeast Asia (Springer, 2022). He also serves as a managing editor for Studies in Ethnicity and Nationalism and an editorial board member for LLT Journal: A Journal on Language Teaching (Universitas Sanata Dharma, Indonesia), Lingin Journal of Linguistics (UPNVJT, Indonesia), the Malaysian Journal of Media Studies (University of Malaya, Malaysia), and Rupkatha Journal on Interdisciplinary Studies in Humanities.
