ANU Philippines Institute Visiting Fellowships

Each year, the Philippines Institute offers short-term visiting fellowships for outstanding academics based in the Philippines to undertake research at the ANU for up to two months.

Visiting Fellows will work with the Institute in order to develop new research collaborations and/or deepen existing partnerships within ANU and/or other academics across Australia. Our fellowship scheme supports academics working on projects that strongly align with the Institute’s overall objectives and priority areas.

Dates

Applications are currently closed. 2025 applications will reopen in December 2024.

Eligibility

  • The scheme is open to candidates at any stage of their career. Applicants should demonstrate how a visit to the ANU Philippines Institute will be beneficial to them at the particular stage of their career.
  • The CV provided should be no more than 4 pages long. Any CV submitted which is over the 4-page limit will render your application ineligible for consideration.
  • Applicants are required to provide a formal statement of support from the Head of Department/Faculty/Institute of their home university.
  • Letter of support from an ANU institution or academic (desirable but not required)
  • Once selected by the ANU Philippines Institute, the successful candidate will need to complete the standard ANU Visiting Fellow nomination and approval process online.

Condition of Award

  • Fellowships must commence and end in 2025
  • Visiting Fellows will be required to submit a final report detailing achievements throughout the Fellowship
  • Visiting Fellows will become a member or affiliate of the Institute
  • As part of the award, recipients are expected to provide a policy briefing document and presentation
  • All projects must demonstrate academic integrity and responsible scholarly practice
  • Airfares and accommodation costs are reimbursable up to a maximum amount, with the remainder (if any) set aside for a stipend amount
  • Any unspent funds will need to be returned to the Institute

How to Apply

Part A. Project Description

(No more than three A4 pages with at least 2 cm margins all round. Use a highly legible font type such as Arial, Palatino or Times New Roman of 12 point size)

The Project Description must provide the following information using the headings below and in this order:

  1. Project Title
  2. Aims and Background
  3. Project Innovation: Outline the problem the research addresses, the conceptual/theoretical framework, and how the design and methodology will be developed (if relevant).
  4. Benefit and Collaboration: Explain how the Project aligns with the Institute’s objectives and strategic priorities
  5. Plan of Action: Indicate the tentative start date of the fellowship. Provide a schedule of activities and outputs to be undertaken during the course of the award. Be as detailed as possible but suitable allowance may be made.

Part B. Institutional Endorsement or Support

The applicant or applicants must obtain and include in their application a letter of support from the relevant institutional supervisor (e.g., Dean, Head of Department or PhD supervisor). Applications lacking institutional endorsement will not be considered.

Part C. Curriculum Vitae

(No more than two A4 pages per person)

Provide a CV with details of the educational qualifications, certifications, research experience, relevant publications, and professional affiliations.

Assessment Process

Funding is assessed independently by a committee in each round, with judgements made relative to other applications received. The committee will consider the eligible applications and make recommendations for decisions to the advisory board.
