Bermond is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Monash University and a PhD Candidate specialising in political behaviour at the Australian National University. His research focuses on using survey experiments and meta-analytic methods to understand why voters in democracies sometimes support illiberal and undemocratic politicians, how they might be persuaded to vote pro-democratically, and which democracies are most at risk of democratic decline. His PhD involved running a conjoint experiment with Filipino voters just before the 2022 presidential election to evaluate the extent to which they punished politicians they were told held undemocratic political positions.
