Athena Charanne "Ash" Presto is a PhD student at the School of Sociology, The Australian National University supported by the Australian Government Research Training Program. She holds a Masters in Public Policy from the National University of Singapore and a Bachelors degree in Sociology from the University of the Philippines Diliman. Ash has around a decade of sociological practice, including research, policy consultancy, and civil society engagement both in the Philippines and internationally. Prior to commencing her PhD studies at The ANU, Ash was a senior lecturer at the Department of Sociology, University of the Philippines Diliman, and taught feminist policy at the Ateneo de Manila University’s Department of Political Science. She regularly provides commentary on contemporary social issues across traditional and new media platforms in the Philippines and abroad.

Political sociology (political participation and everyday politics), gender issues (women and queer identities in marginalised spaces), social policy (gender policy and equitable development)
