Aron Harold Pamoso
Aron is PhD Psychology Candidate at the School of Medicine & Psychology at the ANU College of Health & Medicine. Alongside his academic endeavors, he is also a licensed psychometrician and serves as an HIV counselor in the Philippines. He completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation and a master's degree in clinical psychology from the University of San Carlos.
Aron's current research focus lies in critical health psychology, with a specific emphasis on health conditions associated with stigma, such as HIV and mental health. He explores the experiences of marginalised populations, including sexual-gender minorities and Indigenous Peoples. Utilising a cross-cultural perspective, his work investigates how individuals, both within and across cultures, navigate decisions about their health amidst disparities and stigma, and how these experiences influence their health outcomes. His research encompasses various areas, ranging from analysing health communications across cultures to examining stigma and moralisation in Australia, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. Aron has delved into the complexities of HIV stigma in the Philippines, and his ongoing projects include studying cultural markers of COVID-19 stigma in Indonesia and the Philippines, exploring stigma among Indigenous students in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, and exploring the role of intersectionality-informed consumer leadership on syndemics of HIV and mental health among gay and bisexual men.
