Kate Delmo
Dr. Kate Delmo leads Strategic Communication at UTS, where her work bridges research, real-world impact, and global sustainability. Her research champions the UN Sustainable Development Goals—particularly in sustainable communities, climate action, peace and justice, and good health. Kate explores how communication shapes resilience in times of crisis. She collaborates with emergency services, governments, and communities in Australia and abroad to improve how we prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. Her award-winning partnership with Fire and Rescue NSW created a cultural competency framework for community risk reduction, recognised with the 2023 Emergency Media and Public Affairs Research Excellence Award. Passionate about community-driven solutions, Kate’s research on spontaneous volunteers and culturally diverse communities have influenced how responder agencies engage the public in climate resilience. Beyond crisis communication, Kate investigates digital rights and ethics in the influencer economy—especially how brands and parents can protect children online. Her research on “kidfluencers” has drawn international media attention and earned the Best Paper Award at the Asia-Pacific PR Research and Education Network Symposium. Kate’s work continues to shape how communication builds safer, fairer, and more connected societies.
