Mabuhay!
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the launch of the ANU Philippines Institute, an initiative supported by the Australian Government. The ANU Philippines Institute is a new body established at The Australian National University with the goal of promoting Philippines-related research activities, outreach and expertise among ANU scholars. It also aims to cultivate strong partnerships, linkages and networks between Australian and Philippines academic institutions, policy-makers and relevant interest groups to promote high quality policy research and analysis, and promote the training of the next generation of Philippines scholars.
The Institute will be launched by the Dean of the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific, Professor Helen Sullivan, the Philippine Ambassador to Australia, H.E. Ma. Hellen Barber De La Vega and by Ms Michelle Chan, Deputy Secretary of South and Southeast Asia Group, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The event will feature a public lecture from retired Hon. Justice Antonio T. Carpio on 'The Rule of Law in the South China Sea Dispute'.
It will be followed by a reception and a cultural performance from Dr Merlinda Bobis, Honorary Senior Lecturer from the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences, titled 'Philippines and Australia: From Kasama and Kaibigan to Kabootan and Kapwa (From Companion and Comrade to Co-spirit and Kin).'
Please join us for an opportunity to meet with a variety of persons with a Philippine connection from the ANU, government and the wider Canberra community.
Registration is free and essential on Eventbrite, places are limited so please register soon.
