Discussing Duterte’s arrest: Experts weigh in on the political, legal and regional implications

The Philippines Institute's webinar 'The Duterte arrest: Political, legal and regional implications' provided an in-depth discussion on the recent arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte. Speakers examined the International Criminal Court's (ICC) jurisdiction over crimes against humanity, the Philippines' legal obligations, and the domestic challenges in prosecuting extrajudicial killings.
The webinar was faciliated by ANU Philippines Institute Senior Research Fellow and Professor at De la Salle University-Manila Dr. Cleo Calimbahin and also analyzed the shifting political landscape, with Duterte's arrest reshaping public opinion, including local perspectives from Davao, and affecting the upcoming midterm elections.
